Date of Passing: May 13, 2008
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or Memory(MELVIN) WAYNE CHRISTIANSON April 8, 1951 May 13, 2008 Maintaining his great, albeit warped sense of humour, Wayne fought a short but courageous battle with cancer, passing away at home, as he wished, with family and friends at his side. He was predeceased by both parents, Peter and Selena (Harlton) Christianson, and brother Glen. He is survived by his younger brother Keith. He was born and raised in Deloraine, Manitoba and was always proud of his roots, and his High School. He established a scholarship fund for graduating students from Deloraine wishing to further their formal education. He moved to Winnipeg after graduation and worked towards and received a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Winnipeg, and a Certificate in Education from the University of Manitoba. He taught in Winnipegosis, St. Claude and worked at the Correspondence School. He then returned to the University of Manitoba to study Law, but chose not to be called to the bar. He realized then that his passion lay in teaching. For 25 years he taught primarily Chemistry but also Physics, Math and Law at The Collegiate at the University of Winnipeg. He had many joys and passions in his life which varied greatly. His favourites included travel, (especially to England, but also Brazil, Peru, Europe), all types of music, spending time with friends, and with the children of friends. He never missed their birthdays, or the opportunity to share cake. He enjoyed watching football and hockey, opera, ballroom dancing (in England) and drama. He loved chocolate, and believed that carrot cake counted as one of the vegetable portions for the day. He was active with The Big Brother's Association and was very proud of his two little brothers, Sandy and Ben who are now grown. He hosted International students and made sure they were included on holiday trips and special events. He will be remembered by many for his generous nature and his infectious laugh. His sense of humour demonstrated the perfect English double entendre . He enjoyed quoting Shakespeare to his English teacher colleagues, and it wasn't beyond him to flash his colleagues a risqué T-shirt from under conservative teacher attire. Our brother, cousin, and friend will be tremendously missed. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life to take place at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway, on the corner of Broadway and Sherbrook, on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. He has been cremated and an interment will take place at a later date in Deloraine. If friends so desire, donations can be made to charity of your choice, which reflects Wayne's eclectic range of interests. Not, How Did He Die, But How Did He Live? Not how did he die, but how did he live? Not what did he gain, but what did he give? These are the units to measure the worth Of a man as a man, regardless of birth. Not, what was his church, nor what was his creed? But had he befriended those really in need? Was he ever ready, with word of good cheer, To bring back a smile, to banish a tear? Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say, But how many were sorry when he passed away. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 BROADWAY, WINNIPEG, MB R3C OX4 783-7211 Send expressions of sympathy at www.mem.com
